Staffordshire Group Figure Samson Slaying The Lion Circa 1860 (E)
A beautifully painted piece of Staffordshire, depicting Samson wrestling with the Lion.
Circa 1860.
There are a few minor repairs - the lion's front paw, Samson's right hand, Samson's orange drape (this also has a couple of hairline cracks).
The lion's teeth do not look as sharp as they probably were originally. The lion's tongue is also a little short, so the end possibly chipped off!
There is also a small chip to the bottom base at the back.
The figure group illustrates the biblical story taken from the Old Testament (Judges 13:1-14:7) of SAMSON demonstrating his enormous strength killing a lion.
