Early 1600’s Carved Wooden Figure of an Evangelist, Probably St John

£475.00

South European in style this is a delicate small statue.  The original eyes have gone with left hand and much of original polychrome finish.  Right hand, extended in blessing is missing fingers and has been not too expertly reattached to the arm.  As has the same arm to the body.  Nonetheless, the face looks at us with the calm patience of centuries.  Statue is mounted on a later plinth of oak.
