An exciting old store room find, this 7-foot 217cm tall cross is relatively modern but we believe the corpus probably Flemish, under its many layers of paint, to be at least two hundred and fifty years old. It is not impossible that it might date from the late 17^th Century. Unlike most modern representations, this Christ is tranquil, unadorned with thorns with long hair and a half beard. Even with the distressed, layered paint finish the impression is of great beauty the nails are particularly brutal and spiked.

Antique 18^th Century Mother of Pearl Inlaid Ebony Macau, Apostle Chinese Cross. A very rare antique Macau Apostle cross from the 18^th Century. The first one we have ever had in over thirty years. Made from Ebony inlaid with incised and finely engraved mother of pearl to depict small flowers and foliage. Satisfyingly heavy to hold and the sense of craftsmanship and the hundreds of hours it would have taken to make this takes ones’ breath away. Various losses, all visible in the pictures.
