Ancient 11th Century Stone Head of Jesus Remarkable River Find (SOLD)

This head was found in the River Ribble in the 1990s close to the site of Penwortham Priory. This priory was built in 1075 and functioned until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1535. This would have been when this head, an important keystone, – and who knows what else – was thrown into the river. Penwortham Priory then became a country house until 1925 when it was demolished. This is a unique and unusual find, one of the oldest objects we have ever had.
