Irthlingborough Old Victorian Low Church ‘Tram’ Bench (SOLD)

Cast iron and Baltic Pine bench with a back support that can be moved first one way, then another.  Called ‘tram benches’ as similar benches were used on early trams. They would face one way until the final destination was reached. Then flipped round for the return journey so that passengers always faced the direction of travel. In low churches the benches would face forwards for the official ministers sermon.
