‘The Thing’ Huge Fantastical Plymouth Monks Bench made from 15th Century Timber (SOLD)

From Prysten House, built in 1498 and reputed to be the oldest house in Plymouth.  This utterly insane piece of furniture was carved – all over – and constructed in the 19th Century using original 15th Century timber and panels from Prysten House itself.  In the West Country, Celtic tradition there are mystical serpents, dragons and monsters.  Coupled with what might be Biblical scenes.  A large canopy surmounts the whole and it is safe to say we will never have anything like this again.  Plenty of storage under the lift up lid.
