Betchworth's village pub is said to be over 400 years old, with flagstone floors, two inglenook fireplaces and real ale from Dorking Brewery, who run it. Dogs are welcome too – handy after a morning in the warehouse.

Parish church · 7 minutes' walk
Betchworth's parish church was recorded in the Domesday Book, and parts of today's building date from the 12th and 13th centuries. Film fans may recognise it: it's the church in the very first wedding of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

National Trust · About 10 minutes' drive
One of the best-known viewpoints in the South East, looking out across the Weald. There's a café and visitor centre at the top, and at the bottom of the hill the famous stepping stones cross the River Mole – the National Trust has a waymarked walk that takes in both.

West Street is Dorking's oldest street, lined with antique shops and centres – so you can make a proper antiques day of it. Dorking Museum is on the same street, telling the story of the town and the country around it.

One of the largest single-estate vineyards in the country, on the slopes just outside Dorking. Take the vineyard train tour, stop for lunch with a view over the vines, or simply pick up a bottle on the way home.

Rail to Ramble
The Surrey Hills' own Dorking to Betchworth walk follows the River Mole for five miles beneath Box Hill, through Pixham and the village of Brockham, and finishes in Betchworth – a few minutes from our gate. Allow two to two and a half hours.
Start from Dorking Deepdene station, and set off in good time: we close at 4, so aim to reach us by 3pm.
