Antique Painted Wooden Panel from a French Church Reredos (SOLD)
Painted on thin wooden boards, this would have originally been on a back panel behind an Altar in a small French village church. Subject is a shield showing an olive tree surmounted by a cardinal’s hat with six tassels on each side. At the base is the legend ‘Misericordia Et Ventas’ (Mercy and Truth). Some damage and old woodworm holes which have been treated. Can be hung.
